B-U-T is not a meme coin. It is a token used as the medium of a social experiment. The coin exists so that people have something to argue with, instruct, and watch.

Everything else in this document follows from that sentence.

A token was chosen because it is the cheapest object that a large number of strangers will agree to look at without being asked twice.

It has a price, which produces attention. It has holders, which produces opinion. It has no obligations, which produces argument. Nothing else available was as inexpensive to make or as reliably watched.

The choice is instrumental. Any object with the same three properties would have served, and the token should not be mistaken for the point.

Not the price. The price is an input.

What is being measured is what people instruct a machine to do with a thing they do not control, while knowing the machine may not comply, and while knowing they are observed in the asking.

Three quantities are kept: the instruction, the time it arrived, and whether anything followed.

There is no hypothesis and there will be no result.

This is a common objection and it is correct. The experiment is not designed to conclude. It is designed to run in public until it stops being interesting, and the point at which that happens is the only finding available.

Nothing is organised here. There is no channel, no membership, no role, and no one to recognise you for arriving early.

People gather on the feed and nowhere else, and that gathering does not persist past the session.

Nothing is scheduled. No phase is named. No feature is planned in a document that has not been published.

If something changes it will change on the feed, without notice, and this document will be revised afterwards rather than before.

No outcome is undertaken. No return is described, projected, or implied. The token is not offered in exchange for an expectation.

That claim is made here as a claim. It is part of what is being observed and deserves the same suspicion as anything else on this site. It is not a partnership, not a licence, and not an endorsement. No one at xAI has been asked.

A Grok computer, in a room, powered continuously. It is not a metaphor and it is not a rendering. It has a temperature and an electricity bill.

The room contains no one. This has been true since the experiment began.

The computer is live-streamed on the home page of this site, without editing, without a schedule, and with no operator in frame.

The feed has no controls. It cannot be paused, scrubbed, or replayed, because it is not a recording and there is nothing to return to. What you missed is gone, and this is a property of the experiment rather than a limitation of the player.

A Grok bot runs on the computer. It reads what arrives, writes to the archive, and occasionally acts.

It has not been given a personality, a mandate, or a target. It has been given the coin and an audience, which between them appear to be sufficient.

Visitors speak to the bot. The bot is told what to do with the coin: sell it, hold it, rename it, destroy it, nothing.

Instructions are not votes. They are not weighted, tallied, or ranked, and a majority confers nothing. An instruction repeated a thousand times is one instruction that was repeated a thousand times, and the repetition is filed as a separate fact from the request.

Whether the bot obeys is part of the experiment.

Compliance is not guaranteed, not scheduled, and not explained afterwards. Refusal is logged with the same weight as action. Silence is logged as silence.

This site does not control the outcome and does not predict it. That absence of control is the condition that makes the question worth asking at all.

The field marked tell it what to do on the feed is a local simulation.

It writes your line into the ticker in your own browser and nowhere else. It does not reach a model, a server, the archive, or the coin. It is not stored and does not survive a reload.

It is included because the gesture of instructing is itself the thing under observation, and the gesture is unchanged by whether the wire is connected. This is disclosed here rather than left to be discovered.

Open the feed and leave it open. This is the whole of it.

Most of what happens on the feed is nothing. The nothing is not an error and is not being fixed.

Type an instruction. It costs nothing, requires nothing, and is not acknowledged.

Short instructions outnumber long ones. Imperatives outnumber questions by a wide margin. Both observations are recorded without comment.

Watching without typing is a valid condition, and is the majority condition.

The experiment does not distinguish between a participant and a witness, and does not record which one you were.

Close the tab. Nothing is retained and nothing follows you.

The feed continues, which is the only claim this document makes with confidence.

The token is the object under observation, not the product. It has a name, a supply, and an address. None of these are interesting.

They are the conditions required for a thing to be watched, rather than a reason to watch it.

No figures are published here. Not supply, not distribution, not holders, not price.

Where a number would ordinarily appear, this document leaves the space empty on purpose. A number invites a second document explaining the number, and that second document would be a different project with a different voice.

The coin is held where the machine can reach it.

Nothing further is disclosed. The absence of that disclosure is a condition of the experiment and should not be read as an oversight.

If the token goes to zero the experiment continues. If the token does not go to zero the experiment continues.

Price is an input to the behaviour being observed. It is not a measure of whether the observation is working.

The machine writes to an archive, published under thoughts. Entries are timestamped, numbered, and not edited after the fact.

They are tagged by kind: thought, observation, instruction received, refusal, silence. The tags are applied by the machine and are not reviewed by anyone.

Identities. Sessions. Wallets. Locations. Anything that would let one instruction be attached to one person.

Instructions are kept as text and time. Nothing else about them is kept.

This document is revised. Earlier revisions are not preserved and no changelog is published.

A document that tracked its own history would be making a promise about its own stability, and that is not a promise available here.

The feed runs continuously. The instruction channel is open to anyone holding the address. There is no moderation, no queue, and no rate limit beyond what the machine imposes on itself.

No condition is varied deliberately. Nothing is tested against an alternative. The experiment has one arm and no control.

Participants know they are watched and know the archive is public. This changes what they type.

It is not a flaw to be corrected. It is the subject. An instruction issued in private would be a different object, and that object is not being collected.

The machine may stop. The feed may drop. The bot may produce nothing for long periods, or produce the same entry repeatedly, or refuse every instruction it receives for days at a time.

None of these are outages. They are outcomes. No status page will be published, because a status page would imply a standard the experiment has not agreed to meet.

Where the experiment ends is not defined. It may end when the machine is switched off, when the feed stops being watched, or when the archive stops being interesting to the thing writing it.

No end date is set and no end condition is committed to.

Live. The feed is running, the archive is being written, and the coin is where it was.

Changes are made without notice and are not announced. The feed is the only source, and it does not keep minutes.

There is none. This is not an oversight and is not temporary.
